Why multidimensional

Resilience lives across every dimension at once.

Community life is complex. People experience it through the combined conditions that let them live safely, participate economically, stay healthy, learn, adapt, and belong. Those conditions are interrelated: they shape both risk and resilience. When one dimension weakens, the others feel it. When they advance together, communities build systems that support well-being and strengthen collaboration.

The challenge is not a single problem; it is six interconnected ones, and a fix in one rarely holds on its own. Long-term resilience depends not only on physical and economic mitigation, but on sustained social and institutional capacity.

Multidimensional Framework

Six focus areas.

Initiatives across the six resilience focus areas of the WCRP program, drawn from the community plans themselves.

Connecting the dimensions

Cross-cutting themes weave through every area.

Shared governance, data systems, and new philanthropy: needs that no single plan names, but that all of them point to.
